With a population of over 22 million, Madagascar is the fourth- largest island in the world. 90% of the population live on less than 2 dollars per day. Madagascar is home to an abundance of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Tourism focuses on the niche eco-tourism market, capitalizing on Madagascar's unique biodiversity, unspoiled natural habitats, national parks and lemur species. The major issues in Madagascar are:
- Access to medical care remains beyond the reach of many Malagasy
- Education quality is weak, producing high rates of grade repetition and dropout

3. Community development: making roof tiles, drying tropical fruits and keeping bees. Hof N brings a big impact in its surrounding communities every year.
"The road to the House of Nations- Madagascar was so bad for many years, especially during rainy season. When we lost our 4 x4 , the little campus car was always in trouble when it rained...so, we decided to improve it. We challenged few families to invest in the road and fortunately we have paid all the necessary costs. From now on they are not isolated any-more, we can move to the city anytime we want. This is not only for the benefit of the school, but benefits the entire community." -Faly HaJarivony , Director House of the Nations - Madagascar
